The Kazakhstan Embassy in Washington is the formal communication link between the Kazakhstan and the US governments. The Ambassador heads the Embassy and is the official representative to US of the Kazakhstan Government. The Embassy fulfills the role of a Kazakhstan public authority when it comes to consular and migration-related matters, which include issuance of passports and different kinds of certificates, visas for students, residence and work permits as well as assistance to Kazakhstanis in emergency situations.
The Consular Section acts as the competent Kazakhstan authority in matters such as passports, notary services and certain specific legal transactions, and advises non-Kazakhstani citizens with entry permit matters. It also assists other Kazakhstani authorities with citizenship, population register, military service and family law matters, and with arrangements for absentee voting.
There are several different visas available to US passport holders, dependent on the purpose of the visit to Kazakhstan.
As of August 1, 2013, US passport holders applying for diplomatic, official, private, tourist, business and student visas can now receive a visa with a maximum validity of five-years. The fee for a five-year, multiple entry visa is $160.00.
Note: There is no new application form for five-year visa applicants. Applicants should indicate in their letter and application form they seek a five-year visa.
In-person Submission Only
The Embassy regrets to inform that as of June 15, 2013, in order to improve the work of the Consular section, the Embassy no longer will accept documents via any postal services. Holders of diplomatic and service passports may disregard the above note.
