Astana hosts the first US-Kazakhstan Business Forum
On June 2, 2015 Astana hosted the first U.S.-Kazakhstan Business Forum organized by the US Department of Commerce. This Forum was unique, because it focused on agriculture, energy and infrastructure sectors aiming to help create real business opportunities for American companies in Kazakhstan.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the U.S. Commercial Service, Arun Kumar, gave a keynote speech during lunch and presented three Kazakhstan companies with awards for their partnerships with American companies. Assistant Secretary Kumar lauded Kazakhstan’s commitment to continue developing relations with American businesses and the importance of continuing reforms including adhering to a rule-based system and decreasing barriers to trade.
The Business Forum was key part of his trip to Kazakhstan, as he led an official delegation accompanied by 20 American companies. While in Astana, he met with Prime Minister Karim Massimov, Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov and other officials to discuss expanding business ties as a crucial part of growing strategic partnership.
